Compass Point Consultation on new SEND Resource Base
Tuesday 30 March, 2021
Compass Point Primary is now consulting with parents, staff and the wider community on the proposed addition of a Special Education Needs provision at our school, from 1st September 2021. The proposed specialist provision, known as a Resource Base, will provide full time education for up to 16 pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and primary diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).
The local authority (Bristol City Council) has identified that there is a need within South Bristol for specialist places. Compass Point is well placed in terms of location and experience to provide these places and furthermore can access additional specialist services (such as speech and language) directly from the neighbouring Children Centre.
The Resource Base will comprise of 2 specialist classrooms for children from Reception to Year 6 and will include additional provision such as a sensory room. These children will benefit from highly specialised teaching and enhanced adult to child ratios as part of their everyday provision.
The new resource base will enable Compass Point Primary to share its excellent inclusive practices; transforming the lives of some of society’s most vulnerable children. With the full support of our own governing body and Gatehouse Green Learning Trustees, our vision is to build and develop the resource base alongside our main school. The wellbeing and learning needs of our children will be our top priority and we will continue to deliver significant academic progress and achievement for all our pupils.
I understand that you may have questions about the proposal and I invite you to attend a consultation meeting on Wednesday 28th of April from 6-7pm. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, we will be holding this meeting via Zoom
