Robin Reception Class

“Play is essential for children’s development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, to think about problems, and relate to others. Children learn by leading their own play, and by taking part in play which is guided by adults.” (“Early Years Foundation Stage”,DFE, 2012)

At Compass Point we support children’s learning through planned play activities, and decide when child‐initiated or adult‐led play activities would provide the most effective learning opportunities. We believe that it is important for adults to support children’s learning through play, by getting involved in the play themselves and modelling by example.

Although our Early Years currciculum is led by the children's interests, these are some of the themes they are likely to explore:

- All about Me

- Celebrations 

- Light and Dark

- Journeys

-  Changes

- Our World

- The Great Outdoors

- Long  Ago

In addition to the intended curriculum, the school is dedicated to expanding the children's cultural capital. Giving them exciting experiences from which to learn from. Our school offers the following additional experiences:

- All weather outdoor classrooms

-On site Forest school, plus regular trips to Tyntesfield Forest school provision

- Trips to Severn beach for Beach School provision

- A Large school field for play and exploration, with additional forest 

- Two school mini-buses to facilitate regular school trips

- Cookery skills

- Woodworking and tool skills

- Links with local artists and performers such as ACTA and The Tobacco Factory

Welcome to Term 1

Welcome to term 1! This term we are focusing on settling children (and families) into school life and supporting them to build relationships with ourselves and their peers. Children will be learning through play based activities and challenges, planned around observed intrests and inspiring experiences, using all of the learning environments available.
